Akerkstraat 11, 9712 BDJonathan Linaberry, better known as The Bones of J.R. Jones, always draws his inspiration from the world around him. From bustling New York City, where he began his musical project in 2012, to the tranquility of his new home in the Catskills. Especially the vast horizons and desert landscapes of the American South play an important role in his music, as can be heard on his EP A Celebration. This EP, as the title suggests, is a celebration of discovering new landscapes, sounds and perspectives.
His latest album, Slow Lightning, builds on this inspiration, but feels more raw and intense. It reflects Linaberry’s inner struggles, with dark, cinematic soundscapes full of haunting synthesizers and vintage drum machines, produced by Kiyoshi Matsuyama. Themes of doubt, longing and survival come alive in a style that carries influences from Bruce Springsteen and Bon Iver. Slow Lightning balances effortlessly between Southern Gothic and introspective meditation.
