Thrilling drama with a touch of magical realism about a young woman who holds her own among wild bulls and male pressure to prove herself.

With great bravado she challenges the bulls, always evading them in time. She does not want to be outdone by the men, both inside and outside the arena. It is her great dream to win the upcoming annual competition, but that seems to fall apart when an escaped wild bull sows death and destruction in the area. One after the other of Nejma's male colleagues is found dead, but there is no trace of the animal itself. Director Emma Benestan grew up in the Camargue and was inspired for Animale by the bull games (courses camarguaises, not to be confused with bullfights) that she visited with her family as a child. Animale premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
