The film follows five days of the lives of as many as 24 characters involved in the country and gospel music industry in Nashville, Tennessee. The stories converge at a gala concert by a populist who is running for president on behalf of the Replacement Party.

Nashville received numerous awards in 1975, including five Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, twice Best Female Supporting Actress and Best Original Song. With 11 nominations, the film also received the most Golden Globe nominations for a film ever.
