Cinema Forum Groningen
Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN GroningenA wild ride through the solar system and visually inspired by Star Wars and steampunk. The result is a unique mix of anime and 70s science fiction.
Although the heyday of anime began in the 90s, there are many gems from before that period. One of them is Galaxy Express 999, the debut film from Rintarō, one of the co-founders of studio Madhouse. Based on the manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Leiji Matsumoto, Galaxy Express 999 is a space opera like no other. In the distant future, immortality is within reach, if you are willing to trade your body for a robot one. Young Tetsuro dreams of reaching the end of the intergalactic Galaxy Express 999 line, where one of these bodies can reportedly be obtained for free. In doing so, Tetsuro hopes to defeat Count Mecha, a trophy hunter responsible for his mother’s death.
Featuring a great soundtrack by Nozomu Aoki, Galaxy Express 999 is a classic that should be seen on the big screen.
