Will we still have art & culture in the future? With Renzo Martens & Thijs Lijster

The fact that the word 'culture' has completely disappeared from the new names of the ministries is telling: art and culture are under pressure. We will discuss (the value of) art and culture with artist Renzo Martens and art and culture philosopher Thijs Lijster. Martens and the Congolese CATPC are the Dutch entry for the Venice Biennale this year. With the income from their work, the members of CATPC buy back their exhausted plantation land and restore the forests. Renzo believes that art about inequality can miraculously solve that inequality. Thijs Lijster (1981) is an art and culture philosopher at the University of Groningen. He regularly publishes in De Groene Amsterdammer and Filosofie Magazine, and has written several books.
