We’re All Alone in This Together is a visual and musical performance about dating and socially desirable behavior. Together with co-performer Elias De Bruyne, Kim Karssen takes you on an explosion of imagination that seems real—but which you gradually hope is still fantasy.
Two individuals don’t want to be alone, but they also don’t really know how to be together. They want to build a world, but don’t know the right tools. Like two clowns in an adult world, they try to behave according to the rules of “being human,” hoping to find a soulmate. Until it becomes clear that the rules are different for her than for him.
We’re All Alone in This Together is a tragicomic performance about arming yourself against the dragons on the battlefield of love. But also against the ghosts in your head, the scary man cycling behind you after school, and the dragon of a neighbor who claims you made it all up yourself.
Because if you are a clown disguised as a human, how do you know which dragon is human and which human is a dragon?
Kim Karssen is nominated for the BNG Bank Theater Prize 2024 for this performance. About Kim Karssen
Theater maker and actress Kim Karssen (1996) graduated from the Performance program in Maastricht in 2018. With a love for language and storytelling, she explores a balance between humor and tears in her performances, embracing rough edges and taking risks. Since 2022, Kim has worked under the wing of Frascati Producties, creating the absurdist solo Schrödinger's Dog (2022) and the stand-up Don't Rain on My PaREET (2023) for the theater festival de Parade. In 2023 she was awarded the Wim Bary Stipendium, a prize for theater makers under 35. Earlier collaborations with Florian Myjer at Frascati Producties include Oorlog en Vrede (2019), Mephisto Park (2020), and Mann Mann Mann (2022).
