NOWHERE
Cinema Zienema at Vera
Oosterstraat 44, 9711 NV GroningenLooking for an early Valentine’s date? Nowhere is Gregg Araki’s highly saturated black comedy, which he himself described as “Beverly Hills, 90210 on acid.” Unconventional romance at its finest.
In Nowhere, we follow a group of teenagers in Los Angeles overflowing with hormones, sexual desire, and a constant state of confusion. They are queer, non-monogamous, and freely explore their desires, but through surreal, almost psychedelic moments they also confront their own insecurities and boundaries. Araki is not afraid to toy with the hearts of his characters—and those of the audience. Nowhere is sultry, explicit, shocking, and packed with a hefty dose of teenage nihilism.
This is the third and final film in the Teenage Apocalypse trilogy, preceded by Totally F***ed Up and The Doom Generation, which has since achieved iconic status within the New Queer Cinema movement.
