In September and October, Beth Wong & Chao Huang will be working as guest artists at the Bierumer School. On Saturday, October 26, there will be a presentation of their work period, and the exhibition will continue until Saturday, November 30.
Beth Wong from Hong Kong graduated from the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen and the University of Hong Kong. Her work is a collection of poetic fragments and impressions from her immediate surroundings. She is particularly drawn to stories and materials from the urban fringe. By combining painting with various media, she translates her perceptions to suggest an alternative interpretation of reality.
Chao Huang is an artist from Taiwan who now lives in Groningen. He uses mixed media to create visuals, with personal experience and connection to the environment as the foundation for different projects. He graduated from the Frank Mohr Institute, Shih Chien University, and National Cheng Kung University.
Are You Home? is a collective work that weaves their personal story with themes of community and identity. During their time in the Netherlands, they noticed significant differences between their social lives here and those back home. As artists from Taiwan and Hong Kong, these experiences have inspired them to reflect on colonial history, cultural blending, and the ongoing challenges of settling far from home. Their project explores the experience of relocating and establishing oneself in an unfamiliar environment. They have developed two fictional characters that represent newcomers trying to navigate and adapt to their new surroundings.
The opening of the exhibition Are You Home? will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Paula Biemans will engage in a conversation with Beth Wong & Chao Huang about their work at the Bierumer School.
Bierumer School provides artists with space for production and presentation and is open to the public every Friday and Saturday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Bierumer School is part of Noordenaars and an ANBI institute.
