Cut in Mid-Air

Starting October 13, 2024, the exhibition Cut in Mid-Air will be on display at Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen, featuring works by prominent artists from Cologne. The exhibition is part of an exchange between Groningen and Cologne artists. Earlier this year, Groningen artists led by Wim Bosch and Martijn Schuppers traveled to the German city for a group exhibition titled Vice Versa at KunstWerk Köln, a large studio and exhibition complex. This reciprocal visit brings nine Cologne artists to Pictura, filling the entire building at Martinikerkhof with an exciting exhibition showcasing a wide variety of works, including objects, collages, paintings, light art, and video art.

The title Cut in Mid-Air can be read as a poetic metaphor for things that are irrational yet plausible, that is, profoundly human.

Intercultural, cross-border cross-fertilization is the official goal of the exchange, and the practical result is a colorful, exciting, and diverse exhibition. The participating artists from Cologne include: Emil Adam, Wolfgang Bous, Verena Brettschneider, Gesine Grundmann, Sunja Kim, Andreas My, Rewert Remmers, Therese Schuleit, and Johannes Tassilo Walter.

Pictura

The Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen was founded in 1832 with the aim of "encouraging and promoting the visual arts and applied arts in the broadest sense." Pictura is housed in a beautiful, monumental building at Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In its atmospheric halls, professional artists from various directions and disciplines exhibit their work, with a strong emphasis on figurative art.
