The scion of a very wealthy family, Jan Teunissen was able to pursue his aspirations as a filmmaker at an early age. During World War II, he became the most powerful man in the Dutch film industry. As head of the NSB and SS Film Department, he was soon nicknamed the ‘film czar’ and ‘the Dutch Leni Riefenstahl’. After the war, Teunissen was persecuted and punished. Yet he continued to boast of his cunning and contacts with the high-ups of the Nazi regime.Slowly, a portrait of a man and his motives unfolds. At the same time, the film questions the boundaries between documentary and propaganda, and highlights the role of propagandists - how they spread images, stories, disinformation and ideology.
