Pelikan Blue
Cinema Forum Groningen
Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN Groningen GroningenAn animated documentary film about dreams, smuggling and freedom in 1990s Eastern Europe.
After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the world is changing at lightning speed - and not everyone is watching from the sidelines. In the unique animated documentary Pelikan Blue, Hungarian director László Csáki tells the almost unbelievable but true story of a group of young friends who set up an illegal network to smuggle Western luxury goods - such as jeans, trainers and music - to the Balkans in the early 1990s.
What begins as an adventure soon becomes a story about friendship, seduction, greed and the price of freedom. Csáki combines interviews with former smugglers with hand-drawn animation, bringing the past to life in a lively, playful and sometimes melancholic way.
Prior to the film, the short film Cake Competition by APPi will be shown.
