Ten dancers follow live instructions from an AI-choreographer. Who is prompting who? Plagiary is everything we’ve come to know (and love?) about AI: unpredictable, glitchy, occassionally beautiful, clunkily hilarious, and unique every time. 

When AI seems to make succesfull medical diagnoses, creates believable deepfakes of famous politicians and easily composes pop-songs in the style of your favorite artist, surely it can be a contemporary choreographer? 

In Plagiary, ten local dancers are manipulated in real-time by an artificial intelligence choreographer, with instructions delivered through earpieces. Every performance is unique: with language prompts taken from a different hero of the international dance-canon each time. The AI's prompts, ranging from accidentally poetic to absurdly clunky, push the dancers to a scarily coherent and fascinating comment on our times.
Australian choreographer and dance technologist Alisdair Macindoe spent over 7 years developing an AI-language model that questions, resists and embraces our cybernetic symbiosis with our future technologies.
