He is often compared to Ryan Adams and Ray LaMontagne, but himself cites John Prine as his biggest inspiration. He also asserts himself live: charming, witty and with bassist Ben Dubin as his constant companion, Luning plays shows that are musically strong and know how to surprise. His album Lessons was released in 2023.
