The Noorder Rondtochten 2025

From Thursday, January 23 to Sunday, January 26, 2025, the Noorder Rondtochten will take place, starting from the Euroborg, Noorderpoort.

The Noorder Rondtochten are the walking version of the legendary skating classic, the Noorder Rondritten. With a total distance of 135 kilometers, this is a challenging walking event, specifically for the seasoned walker. The trek lasts for four days, during which participants will walk through the beautiful winter landscape of the Hogeland region in Groningen. The Route of the Noorder Rondtocht

The full route is approximately 135 km long. You will walk this on:

• Thursday, January 23 - approximately 31 km, Groningen-Appingedam
• Friday, January 24 - approximately 37 km, Appingedam-Uithuizen
• Saturday, January 25 - approximately 26 km, Uithuizen-Winsum
• Sunday, January 26 - approximately 41 km, Winsum-Zoutkamp-Winsum

Fourth Edition

In 2013, the first edition of the Noorder Rondtochten was organized to commemorate the fact that it had been exactly fifty years since Groningen skating hero Jan Uitham won the Noorder Rondtochten in Winsum on January 26, 1963, during the famous Elfstedentocht winter. The event took place from January 24 to 27, 2013, with the highlight being the tribute to Jan Uitham on January 26 in Winsum. Over 1000 walkers braved the wintery conditions such as snow, ice, strong winds, and fog. The 2017 and 2021 editions also experienced cold conditions, where walkers were literally warmly welcomed by the villages with crackling fires, hot chocolate, pea soup, and of course, warm blankets.

Winter Olympics

The theme for the Noorder Rondtochten in 2025 is: Winter Olympics. The pass-through locations on the route will be transformed into sporty hotspots, each inspired by the winter sports featured in the Winter Olympics. The colors of the Olympic rings will also play a special role. Each day will bring a unique atmosphere and experience, with matching music, decorations, refreshments, and activities.
