Evening music: Sietze de Vries
Martinikerk
Martinikerkhof 3, 9712 JG GroningenAs part of the Evening Music series, this concert features a richly varied selection for organ, performed on both the choir and main organs of the Martinikerk. The evening opens with an improvisation by renowned organist Sietze de Vries, showcasing his distinctive and imaginative style on the choir organ. The focus then shifts to the main organ for a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s powerful Prelude and Fugue in D major (BWV 532), followed by the reflective Von Gott will ich nicht lassen (BWV 658), where the chorale melody is heard prominently in the pedal.
The program continues with two Romantic-era works by August Gottfried Ritter: Helft mir Gott’s Güte preisen, a piece based on the same chorale tune used by Bach, and the joyful Heut triumphiret Gottes Sohn. The concert concludes with another free improvisation by Sietze de Vries, bringing the evening full circle with a fresh and spontaneous musical expression.
