Jerry Leger
Aa Theater
Akerkstraat 11, 9712 BD“A grossly underrated class act,” Written in Music called him in response to his 2019 album Time Out For Tomorrow. Because even though Canadian singer-songwriter Jerry Leger has been around for quite a few years, he is not yet very well known to the general public. But that is changing. In 2022 he performed at the Aa theater, in 2023 he was already at TakeRoot and in 2024 he was one of the names at Rhythm & Blues Night.
Uplifting roots rock, fragile country ballads, infectious guitar pop, forays into rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly: it all comes along on Leger’s timeless records. Sharp guitar riffs support his biting vocals. Want to get an idea of Leger’s versatility? Then listen to the 2017 double album Nonsense And Heartache. The first record features an extraordinary mix of raw recorded rock and roll, rockabilly and country. On the second record, Leger takes things a lot calmer with subdued Americana.
2022 saw the release of the once again excellently received Nothing Pressing, on which Leger combines rousing lyrics with beautifully crafted melodies and a soulful voice, and influences can be heard from icons such as Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Neil Young and Everly Brothers. “Jerry Leger adds yet another modest masterpiece to an extremely recommended body of work.” (Written in Music)
His latest album from 2023 Donlands is yet another of his goosebump records. “It’s clever how Jerry Leger, without really changing style, manages to give his albums a slightly different sound each time.” (Altcountry.nl ****)
