Trompsingel 27, 9724 DAScottish composer James MacMillan wrote a new Miserere for the Sistine Chapel in 2009, using Allegri’s famous version as inspiration. Wonderful how he weaves ancient and modern music into a heavenly tapestry of sound. In addition, the world-renowned Latvian Radio Choir performs works by Mendelssohn and others and from their internationally acclaimed CD Penderecki: Sacred Choral Works.
Miserere mei, Deus (God, have mercy on me): it is the opening line of David’s penitential psalm, beautifully set to music by many composers – from the distant and near past as well as the present – as a cry for forgiveness, comfort and redemption in dark times. It is the common thread this concert, in which the Latvian Radio Choir takes you on a spiritual journey. Since 1992, the ensemble has been led by two big names in choral music: Sigvards Klava was chief conductor and artistic director until the end of 2023, assisted by second conductor, Kaspars Putnins. From 2024, their roles changed.
