Sneak Preview: Groninger Museumnacht 2024 (#GMN24)

Groninger Museum | Lange Mannen Met Haast

Lange Mannen Met Haast brings Dutch-language poetic indie-pop with a touch of cabaret. With guitar, vocals, and drums, their playful music and sincere lyrics make the audience laugh, cry, and everything in between. The songs are about experiences like small parties, desires, longing, a hammock in France, and the crossword puzzle booklet.

Forum Groningen | Trump, Wildlife, and Miraculous

Until after midnight, you can view exhibitions at the Forum including America & Trump by Andres Serrano and Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Museum Storyworld is also open, featuring a mini-exhibition about the French animation series Miraculous. Additionally, as you're accustomed to, there's an evening-long program full of workshops, lectures, and music.

GRID Graphic Museum in Akerk | Druktemaker

After last year's great success, GRID returns to the monumental Akerk. The mobile museum printing press, the Druktemaker, is packed with materials to make it an unforgettable evening. Get started with lino cutting or binding your own booklet, or put our graphic experts to work with an assignment. Using the Werkman technique, they create a beautiful and personal artwork for you.

Museum aan de A | Crash Course in Groningen Dialect with Olaf Vos (NL-GN)

Next stop at the Groningen museum night at Museum aan de Aa! Musician and teacher Olaf Vos gives you a crash course in Groningen dialect. Olaf teaches you Groningen words and phrases that are indispensable in Groningen nightlife. Going out, flirting, and eroticism are covered. The course is given twice: once in Dutch-Groningen and once in English-Groningen. Olaf is known from the language program Grunnegers on TV Noord and from the bands VandeStraat and de Bond tegen Harries.

University Museum | Exhibition: 'Kaleidoscope'

This year, the University of Groningen celebrates its 410th anniversary. Since its founding in 1614, much has been collected, including by professors like Theodorus van Swinderen and Petrus Camper. In 1934, the University Museum was established to bring together the historical collections. The exhibition Kaleidoscope: Hidden Treasures from the University Collection reveals hidden treasures from that wonderful Groningen University Collection. Kaleidoscope takes you on a journey through all fields of science and shows the rich university history through more than 200 unique objects.

Groningen Synagogue | Summer Exhibition 'A Dutch Lawrence of Arabia?'

Jacob Israël de Haan, a man with many faces and even more stories. The son of a Jewish cantor in Smilde, Drenthe, became a journalist, poet, writer, teacher, and jurist! He was the author of Pijpelijntjes, the first Dutch autobiographical homosexual novel. Although De Haan only lived to be 42, he made a lasting impression. In 1919 he left for Palestine, where he was murdered on June 30, 1924 - exactly 100 years ago this year - because of his sharp criticism of political Zionism. In this exhibition at Groningen Synagogue, you get to know the man who is considered by some to be 'a Dutch Lawrence of Arabia'. But was he really?

Studio Noorderlicht | Noorderlicht Award

From 2024, Noorderlicht will award the Noorderlicht Award annually to a graduate student from the 2024 class of Academie Minerva. The jury, consisting of Noorderlicht director Roosje Klap, Noorderlicht chief curator Wim Melis, and guest curator Rosa Wevers (Minerva), will choose a winner from the previously established shortlist. The prize is a sum of €1,000 for realizing an exhibition in the Noorderlicht gallery. The result of this very first winner of the Noorderlicht Award can be seen during the Groningen Museum Night. Don't miss it!

Previous editions have featured outstanding performances by local talents and renowned artists like Orange Skyline, S10, and Sophie Straat.
