Originally, there was a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas and Mary at the location of the current Akerk. Saint Nicholas served as the patron saint for the sailors who moored their ships in the nearby harbor area.

In honor of this patron saint, Akerk is organizing a special Saint Nicholas concert for the whole family on November 30 at 14:00 and 15:30. House organist Peter Westerbrink will play the world-famous Arp Schnitger organ. Naturally, the well-known Sinterklaas songs will also be included! The program is free to attend and will look as follows: - Welcome to the Akerk⁠, Sing songs⁠, Fun with the Pieten, and a Sinterklaas Song Bingo⁠.
