Originally, a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas and Mary stood on the site of the current Akerk. Saint Nicholas served as the patron saint for the sailors who docked their ships in the nearby harbor area.

In honor of this patron saint, A kerk is organizing a special Saint Nicholas concert for the whole family on November 30 at 3:30 PM. House organist Peter Westerbrink will play the world-famous Arp Schnitger organ, while the story of Saint Nicholas is told in a playful manner. Of course, the well-known Sinterklaas songs will also be included!
