Wintergoud 2024 in Groningen

Wintergoud is the biggest Christmas Event in Groningen and it has so many christmas events that we decided to put together a separate program for the best overview.

This year, Groningen is going all out during the dark months! From December 6, 2024, to January 5, 2025, the city of Groningen will be celebrating ‘Wintergoud’ with various winter-themed events.

Winterstad Groningen | 6 december 2024 - 5 januari 2025

Enjoy the ultimate Christmas vibes at  this Magical Christmas Market at Grote Markt, named Groningen Winterstad.

Christmas market, Ice Rink and Ferris Wheel | Grote Markt

And there will be an ice rink and a ferris wheel! Under the smoke of Martinitower, this is a nice family activity. The Christmas Market offers Glühwein, Bratwürst and Hot Chocolate. There is a wintercafe for business or casual gatherings available.

Last-minute Christmas Shopping | December 21 & 22, 2024

On December 21 and 22, 2024, Vitalis is organizing a fun market for your last-minute Christmas shopping. The locations are Carolieweg, Oosterstraat, and Gelkingestraat.

Swedish Christmas Market at the Sugar Factory | December 7 & 8, 2024

The Swedish Christmas Market has become an annual tradition in Groningen. From October 9 to November 7, you can score tickets at a discount! Here, you’ll find handmade products in the atmosphere of Swedish Christmas traditions. Fun, right? ‘God Jul’ (Google it!) A ticket will cost around 9 euros.

Stadspark Nightrun | December 13, 2024

On December 13, 2024, the Stadspark Nightrun will take place, literally a glowing event in the dark December and perfect for sporty Groningen. You’ll see running clubs going all out with their glowing outfits. If you’re not running, definitely come and watch! The city is completely closed off to traffic. ;-) Registration for the Stadspark Nightrun has already started, so will you bring light to the darkness on Friday, December 13?

Winterwelvaart | December 13, 14 & 15, 2024

Winterwelvaart is one of the components of Wintergoud. From Hoge der A until the Big Market, there will be stands with Christmas-themed food and goods, organized by Vitalis Markten and Paul van Put Events. Museum aan de A will also do some programming. We will update the events when there is news to share!

Winterwelvaart Art Gallery Tour | December 13, 14 & 15, 2024

Many galeries will have their doors open for this tour and you can view the art of around 50 artists in het area of A Quartier in Groningen. Ceramics, paintings, jewelry and many more art performances. 

Meet en Greet Santa and his Elfs | several data | Martini Tower

Enjoy a meet & greet and photo shoot with Santa and his Elfs at the Martintower. Kids have a free entree ofcourse. Dates are:

Christmas City Walks | 14 & 15 december 2024 | Akerk Groningen

This walk will guide you through all iconical buidings of Groningen and you will experience the story of Christmas. The tour will start at location Akerk.

Christmas Sing Along Cafe | friday 20th of  December 2024

At friday 20th of December at location Nieuwe Markt, you can sing along with Christmas Carols organised by  BIJVRIJDAG. Sing your heart out without being embarrassed. There will also be live music and the texts are projected on a big screen. Starting time will be 19:00 and it will end at 20:30 PM and it is absolutely free!

Klaar Af Kookt - Farm to Table | saturday 21st of December 2024 | Forum Groningen

Explore flavors of the Groningen Ommeland at Klaar Af Kook hosted by Wilbert van der Kamp at Forum Groningen! Learn how local products become delicious dishes and taste the region Groningen, and meet the farmers. During the cooking demonstration, there will also be a small farmer’s market where you can purchase the products used for cooking.

Roald Dahl Festival | 28, 29 and 30th of December 2024

3, 2, 1 Goud & Nieuw | 31 January 2024 | Grote Markt

Count your blessings at the last night of 2024 at the Grote Markt and enjoy a festival evening with local DJ's, visual arts en performances that will give you an unique experience. This event is absolutely for free! The year before thousands of people attended this party!

Who is organizing Wintergoud?

To make it a bigger event around Christmas in Groningen, this year lots of organizations are working together: Municipality of Groningen, Marketing Groningen, Sport050, Winterwelvaart, Lutje Lokaal, de Stadskerk, GOLAZO, stichting Winterstad Groningen, the ACLO, Museum aan de A, Forum Groningen, the organizers of Zweedse Kerstmarkt, and the Groningen City Club have joined forces to make it a true winter festivity.
