A new generation of creators explores a shared cultural heritage between the Netherlands and Indonesia and brings it to life in fashion, music, food, and film, where memory and the present come together.

Indonesia was a colony of the Netherlands for over 350 years. After World War II, about 350,000 Indische Nederlanders came to their 'homeland', where they quietly tried to build a new existence. The first generation primarily wanted to integrate quietly and is the last that has experienced the Dutch East Indies firsthand. The second generation leans on the tempo doeloe of their parents and serves as a bridge between the first and subsequent generations, between the Netherlands and Indonesia.

The third generation is curious about their cultural heritage and the land of their ancestors and seeks to understand what has been passed down and what that means today. In this film, director Claire Pijman follows a new generation of creators who shape a shared cultural past in their own way.
