Hans Dulfer – 85 Years & 60 Years on Stage

World-famous saxophonist Hans Dulfer isn’t looking back but plays ahead with undiminished energy. He celebrates his 85th birthday and sixty years on stage with a new tour and reissues of successful albums such as Big Boy. Together with his all-star band Dulfer! Total Response, he’s coming to Groningen for an explosive mix of jazz, funk, rock and dance.

The maverick founder of the Dutch music scene with his warm yet relentless sax sound keeps performing stormily. Energy, joy and a sense of the here and now are central to Dulfer and his overwhelming all-star band Dulfer! Total Response, featuring members from the most successful periods of Dulfer’s career.

Guitarist Jerôme Hol is one of today’s most spectacular and sought-after guitarists, an incredible rock improviser in the spirit of Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix. Drummer Hans Eijkenaar, who has worked with top Dutch and international acts including Anouk, Kane and Kayak and played on dozens of Top 40 hits, is a household name among drummers and rarely heard in an intimate setting. This year he was again voted Best Fusion/World Drummer by readers of Slagwerkkrant. Bassist Ishaq van Niel has to be seen to believe – physical, virtuosic and incredibly musical. Koen Schouten, who has played with Caro Emerald and Michelle David, gives the growling baritone sax a new dimension with his soloistic sound.
