Mamoru Hosoda's long-awaited new film after the success of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and the first animated Japanese animation film to compete at the prestigious Locarno Festival.

The virtual city of Oz allows anyone to access the internet at any time, for information, to pay bills or to play online games. In his spare time, Japanese high school student Kenji works as a maintenance computer programmer for Oz. When Natsuki, the girl he is secretly in love with, invites him to Nagano for a few days for a family banquet, he immediately accepts. The night after the banquet, Kenji gets a strange e-mail on his mobile phone containing numbers and the message: Decode me! A lover of mathematics, he accepts the challenge and solves the puzzle. The next morning, he finds out that his avatar is wanted by the authorities.

It is also a story for our times, when we look at our online lives and social media with new eyes.
