Imogen Cooper is regarded worldwide as one of the most refined interpreters of the classical and romantic repertoire. The British pianist achieved international fame with her interpretations of Schubert, Schumann, Mozart and Beethoven. But whatever she plays, she always manages to take her audience on a compelling journey.

Cooper can play whisper-soft and fragile as well as powerful and expressive, depending on what the music calls for. With Beethoven, she connects intense, stormy drama to hushed, almost meditative moments. When she plays Schubert, she perfectly captures the melancholy and loneliness that often permeate the works without her playing becoming melancholy. And although Cooper is less known as a Bach specialist, she knows how to bring all the nuances to life in his music as well.

Even if you’ve never been to a piano concert, chances are you’ve heard her play. In fact, Cooper played a special role in the making of the film Amadeus (1984), the acclaimed film adaptation of Mozart’s life. She performed all the piano parts, and thanks to her coaching, lead actor Tom Hulce came across convincingly as a brilliant musician and pianist.
