This percussion trio spectacularly addresses an urgent issue: how should we relate to nature? Are we actually still a part of it? The Kāna Trio wades through human noise and pollution for an answer and “shows and feels that rhythm is in everything and everyone,” according to the jury of Dutch Classical Talent. The trio does so with music by John Cage and Yijoo Hwang, among others.

The theme of climate change lends itself to overwhelming percussion. But amid the spectacle, the percussionists do not over-shout themselves. The Kāna Trio was winner of the Grachtenfestival Conservatory Competition 2022 and there, too, the jury was impressed by the subtlety: “The color palette ranged from whisper-soft marimba noise to the most ominous jungle violence.

Dutch Classical Talent
During this nationwide concert tour, young musicians demonstrate their abilities and compete for the Dutch Classical Talent Award. Talent alone is not enough; participants also distinguish themselves through adventurous, stimulating programs. At the end of the tour, the Dutch Classical Talent Award will be presented during the festive finale. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Pronk and saxophone quartet Osimun Quartet are the other two contenders. Previous award winners include Tania Kross, Lavinia Meijer and the Van Baerle Trio, just to name a few resounding names.
