Noord Nederlands Orkest & Cappella Amsterdam
De Oosterpoort
Trompsingel 27, 9724 DACappella Amsterdam is a world-class chamber choir. But it is above all a choir of people among people, as they say themselves. It makes classical and contemporary music accessible to everyone in a spontaneous way. Medieval songs are performed with just as much fervor as new repertoire. Their varied programs make them a wonderful match for the NNO.
This concert is dedicated to Igor Stravinsky, himself one of the greatest connectors in music history. He was active for much of the 20th century, working in Europe and America and composing in a wide variety of styles. Each Stravinsky piece is different and yet you always immediately recognize his tantalizing harmonies and rhythms.
Different worlds also come together in his choral works. For example, he drew on folk songs, Russian Orthodox church music and the Italian Renaissance, as well as more contemporary styles. Most pieces are short and powerful and always multi-colored and crystal-clear instrumented.
