With Frau Luna, Opera Zuid presents an irresistible Berlin operetta by the German composer Paul Lincke. The director is Steef de Jong, who constantly demonstrates why this genre is alive and kicking. With this production, he makes his debut at Opera Zuid and brings Paulien Cornelisse’s Dutch adaptation to life in an imaginative and playful manner.

In this charming operetta, a group of young dreamers becomes captivated by the moon. They build an airship and set out in search of the ‘man in the moon’. There, they find themselves in the wondrous world of Frau Luna, where freedom, love, and imagination dictate the rules. Old conventions vanish, new desires blossom, and nothing is what it seems. Or is the moon world ultimately nothing more than an imaginative reflection of earthly life?
Just as with his company Groots & Meeslepend, Steef de Jong once again opts for a visible theatrical illusion: using cardboard, strings, and inventive theatrical devices, the singers construct a complete (moon)world. Philzuid provides the energetic, timeless music, with swinging march rhythms and cabaret influences.
