With his dark voice and dreamy arrangements, Anne Jan Toonstra creates picturesque, folky songs. On Friday, October 2nd, he will perform a release show for his new album at De Oosterpoort, accompanied by guitar, cello, violin, and more.

Anne Jan Toonstra is a Groningen-based presenter, cabaret artist, and musician. You may know him from the radio program Glasnost, which covers art and science in Groningen. For years, he toured Dutch theaters with his solo cabaret performances. In 2024, he released his debut album Rough Sleeper Rising Star. The third single, Bright Night, was named 'Gronings Goud' (Groningen Gold).

Now his second record is being released, once again created together with producer Gijs van Veldhuizen. It is an ambitious and rich album, summarized by Anne Jan as ‘an ode to the attempt’. During the release show for this album, Anne Jan will be accompanied by Gijs van Veldhuizen (guitar), Sebastiaan Wiering (cello), Heta Salkolahti (violin), and Michael Nieuwenweg (double bass), among others. Additionally, several guest musicians will join him on stage.
