Het Houten Huis Theatre
Het Houten Huis is the visual music theatre company of the North. Based in Groningen, we create performances that can be seen throughout the country and beyond the borders. Our house symbolizes life, where sometimes something squeaks and cracks, or an unexpected guest shows up. We are always working on stories, imagination, and musicality, chiseling and crafting along the way. During the day, we perform for school classes, from toddlers to teenagers. But when adults leave the theatre in the evening, filled with the same amazement, it becomes clear that emotion and fantasy know no age limits...

We take you to a world of boundless imagination. A place where sorrow, beauty, and humor meet. With attention to detail, live music, poetic images, and an expressive playing style, we create a 'living picture book' with each performance. There is rarely spoken dialogue; music is the breath of the piece.
We show what tightens from within. Each performance is a journey and an invitation to embrace the imperfections of life.
Esteemed Audience
We do not just perform for our audience, but also with them. Around each performance, we offer educational activities that deepen the themes and train the imagination. In a playful, philosophical way, we encourage both young and old to think about themselves, others, and the world. Through educational projects that are not linked to specific performances, we also show the endless possibilities of creativity.
