Trompsingel 27, 9724 DASt. Nicholas is barely out of sight and we are already immersed in the Christmas spirit. The famous and acclaimed baroque orchestra Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin is coming to Groningen with the most beautiful and cheerful Christmas music by Vivaldi, Locatelli, Corelli and Telemann. The icing on the cake is Bach’s festive Double Concerto.
Corelli’s popular Concerto grosso op. 6/8 was written especially for Christmas Eve. The last movement refers to the shepherds to whom the Christmas star appeared. Shepherds also resound in Telemann’s pastoral Overture and Locatelli’s Concerto grosso. The scintillating double concertos by Bach and Vivaldi have no direct connection to Christmas, but due to their exuberant atmosphere, they naturally fit perfectly into a festive Christmas program.
