Carnivale
On 2, 3 and 4 January 2026, the intimate festival returns to Groningen, where TuinInDeStad is transformed into a fairy-tale illuminated world filled with circus, fairground magic, illusion, theatre, humour and music.
Carnivale is an accessible, small-scale festival with a playful nod to history. Visitors wander through an intimate setting where wonder takes centre stage: from a thrilling gnome adventure to a magician in a caravan and a spectacular record attempt by Fellino, the amazing handwalker.
During the day, Carnivale is warm, playful and family-friendly. In the evening, the garden takes on an extra magical glow with hundreds of lights, fire and live music. In the big tent, visitors can enjoy the Klezkopf Carnivale Orchestra and a remarkable aerial act by the woman hanging by her hair.
With a brand-new programme, Carnivale 2026 once again promises an edition full of grand joy, accessible theatre and cosy moments for the whole family.
