DSG is not just landscapes

The Drenthe Painting Society
Koopmansplein 16, 9401 ELThe DSG (Drenthe Visual Artists Association) is home to a diverse group of 41 members, including graphic artists, ceramists, spatial designers, and photographers, all with connections to Drenthe. Alongside these members, DSG Jong represents recently graduated artists, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary visual art.
The DSG regularly organizes exhibitions that highlight the vibrant artistic scene in Drenthe, with shows extending beyond provincial and national borders. These exhibitions provide a comprehensive view of the local visual arts, showcasing a wide range of themes, techniques, and styles. From the revival of Golden Age painting traditions to modern movements like new realism, surrealism, conceptual art, and impressionism, there is something for every art lover.
Human figures are a central theme in many works, depicted in portraits or set in poetic, intimate moments, as well as in magical, surreal environments. Whether in idyllic landscapes or bustling spaces, the human form is explored in various ways. In spatial works, animals and humans express their true nature, while delicate plant-like shapes slowly take over their surroundings.
Many of the featured artists use their work to convey hidden, witty, or provocative messages, inviting viewers to engage with the art on a deeper level. Playful wordplay in the titles and the reimagining of everyday objects evoke the influence of magical realism, surrealism, and conceptual art.
In this exhibition, eight artists from the DSG present a fascinating cross-section of the diverse creative expressions coming out of Drenthe. The show offers a glimpse into the innovative approaches and thought-provoking work being produced by these talented artists.
