Just van Bommel & Emma van den Elshout / Frascati Producties - Het Spektakeltje

Het Spektakeltje is a textual and visual performance about small things, slightly bigger things, and the biggest things. About how everything in our universe moves, intertwines, and how to make sense of it all. Right now, somewhere on a street in Amsterdam, right now, somewhere on a roof in a field in Tocantins, right now, somewhere on a freighter in the North Sea (or maybe right now already between Denmark and Sweden), right now, in the International Space Station, somewhere above Mozambique, someone is wondering what it all means.
How aware are we of the bizarre systems we are constantly a part of, contribute to, and yet have very little control over? Is there, right now, someone on the other side of the world who hopes they are not the only one paralyzed by this thought? Emma van den Elshout (she/her) (1998) and Just van Bommel (he/she/they) (1999) graduated from the Theatre Academy Maastricht, specializing in directing and performance (2022). Together they like to create work about things that seem small or obvious, and yet turn out to be stranger, scarier, or more beautiful. They previously created Het Showtje, which was selected for Het Debuut 2022 at VIA RUDOLPHI.

Life is waiting. A lot of waiting. For your first school day. Until you finish school. For your first date. The moment your relationship ends. Until you can get your driver’s license. You buy your first house. And then? Then it’s waiting for... What exactly?
A group of young people together in an abandoned place. They are waiting for something or someone that they hope will change their lives. While they wait, they become entangled in conversations about the meaning of life, their dreams and fears, and the challenges of growing up in a complex world.
Fireworks in the Rain is about the big questions of life. And the everyday life. Come and wait with us to see if we can figure out what we are actually waiting for. And whether what we do in the meantime, might actually just be life.

Kopergietery - Infinity Forever

After breaking up with her partner, Lulu discovers a black hole in her room. It's not that big, but it sucks everything in and spits it out again. She gets caught in a whirlwind of memories, dreams, and confusing feelings. Yet, she still has to get up. Have breakfast with her sleepy alien father. Witness the daily horrorshow that her ‘school’ is supposed to be. Everything keeps going, while Lulu seems stuck in time.
In ‘INFINITY FOREVER’, Mats Vandroogenbroeck, Jonas Baeke, and Maria Magdalena de Cort musically explore the sudden feeling that everything is gone, even though the world keeps turning. They try to grasp the moment when words fall short to describe a feeling that's too big: a broken heart.

If you haven’t gamed yet, now’s the time to start. The future world is digital: a world shaped by gamers. In Good Game (GG), they provide insight into the benefits and pitfalls of gaming. Hobbyists and professional esports players team up to finally explain to those concerned adults how it all works. With their contribution, professional theatre makers create a real-life game experience for the audience.

The gaming world is infinitely rich. When you start a game, you’re in another era in seconds, you take your first step on another planet, or crawl into someone else's shoes. You’re king of the hill or the underdog, you improve other players' high scores, unravel mysteries, build your dream house, or conquer as a team. Whatever you’re looking for, whatever you’re missing: there’s a game that gives it to you.

Louis Janssens - Desire

Desire takes place during the transition from night to day, from dark to light. The moment when possibilities become visible. What thoughts and doubts arise during this so-called ‘blue hour’? The performance is set at that very moment of unfulfilled desires.
With a newly written text as a starting point, Louis Janssens, along with three performers, takes the stage. Four lonely souls lead us through their personal thoughts, doubts, fears, and desires. They share what they would not normally show each other. In Desire, they do, only to discover that they are actually quite similar in that way.
Desire was selected for Het TheaterFestival 2024!

About the Festival
Jonge Harten is a nine-day festival for young people filled with theatre, performance, dance, workshops, and more in Groningen. At Jonge Harten, theatre makers determine the agenda, not politicians, scientists, or multinationals, as is the case in many other places. Together, they give their perspective on the future. But shaping the future without young people is impossible, after all, they are the future. That’s why young people are invited at Jonge Harten to see themselves as the makers of their own lives and to let their voices be heard.
Jonge Harten 2024 has a playful mindset: ‘play around’. An invitation to blow up existing frameworks, claim your own space, make your own choices, and try new things. In short, to play around! Because then you’ll see that it will lead to new insights.
