Sint Walburgstraat 1, 9712 HXFrom 9 March to 13 April 2024, the lower rooms of Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen will host the captivating Pillar Prints exhibition, showcasing the work of Holt, a distinguished group of graphic artists founded in 1998. The exhibition highlights traditional relief printing techniques such as woodcut, linocut, and engraving, offering a deep dive into both historical methods and innovative practices in the world of printmaking.
The 2024 theme, a vertical print with a 1:4 ratio, draws inspiration from the Hashira-e, the Japanese pillar prints traditionally hung vertically on pillars. These prints often featured a view through a door or window, with parts of the image cut off, leaving much to the imagination. The Holt members have embraced this challenging format, creating pieces that push the boundaries of traditional printmaking.
Don’t miss the opportunity to witness these stunning works in person and learn about the creative process behind them. The exhibition is free to visit, and on Sunday, 23 March, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, there will be continuous printing demonstrations and tours led by Antje Veldstra and Claudia van de Leur.
The Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura, founded in 1832, continues to serve as a hub for visual and industrial arts in Groningen. The exhibition is set in a historic, atmospheric space that offers a perfect setting for this exceptional display.
