Kruissingel, 9712 XN GroningenIn his solo set Red Flag, bass clarinetist, composer, and philosopher Joris Roelofs breathes new life into protest songs, battle hymns, and folk tunes rooted in leftist political movements.
Music as resistance. Sound as fight.
Drawing inspiration from powerful voices like Paul Robeson, Woody Guthrie, Kurt Weill, and even Frida Kahlo, Roelofs revives music once used as a weapon against injustice, in equality, and oppression.
Accompanied by projected visuals and spoken introductions, he provides the historical and political context behind each piece, creating a reflective and immersive experience.
