In the beautiful Burgzorg's Gaze, book collector Ricardo Burgzorg shows how black people have been depicted in picture books and graphic stories from 1910 to the present. The images are often moving and splendid, but sometimes also disturbing or shocking due to caricatures or blatant racism.

Burgzorg's Gaze

In seven thematic chapters, Burgzorg, along with Arjan Peters, describes what we see, what this says about the common perceptions of black people, and how this imagery has only changed for the better in recent decades. Burgzorg's Gaze is an engaging, educational, and colorful confrontation. Ricardo Burgzorg engages in a conversation with Jelte Posthumus.
