Simone Lamsma & Beatrice Rana
De Oosterpoort
Trompsingel 27, 9724 DAConductor Jaap van Zweden calls Simone Lamsma “one of the world’s leading violinists”, the Chicago Tribune described her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as “absolutely stunning”. Anyone who attended one of her previous concerts at De Oosterpoort – or anywhere else – will know why. With her expressive, intense playing, Lamsma knows how to expose every emotion in a piece of music.
Italian pianist Beatrice Rana has also been an international star for years. Her recitals are an experience that fans eagerly look forward to and her CDs invariably win prizes. With her Chopin interpretations, Rana set a new standard, according to The New York Times: “She made the Chopin sound as poetic and colourful as anything he ever wrote. Her playing was refined and soft-spoken in its brilliance throughout.”
Put these two greats on stage and you have no less than a match made in heaven. A downright sensationally good duo that is going to bring you to the edge of your seat with beautiful late-nineteenth-century and early-twentieth-century chamber music. With César Franck’s famous Violin Sonata, there is also a great final piece on the programme, a compelling work written as a wedding present for Eugène Ysaÿe that you would prefer to hear every day.
