Somer Kamerorkest
De Oosterpoort
Trompsingel 27, 9724 DA GroningenSomer is the chamber orchestra of the next generation: a young group of adventurous musicians who bring classical music closer with accessible and surprising programs: fresh, energetic, and without fuss. During this concert, the ensemble performs three enchanting works, specially arranged by conductor Rolf Verbeek for an ensemble of eleven musicians.
In Pan et les Nymphes by composer Louis Somer, born in Assen, the mythical figure Pan and his nymphs perform a magical dance. The dreamy, impressionistic sounds immediately immerse you in a world full of poetry and mystery.
Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll was originally written as a birthday gift for his wife Cosima. In this orchestral idyll, we hear Wagner from a restrained and serene side, with warm melodies that sound like a love poem.
After the intermission, Bruckner’s Third Symphony follows, also known as the ‘Wagner Symphony’. This monumental work, presented here in a special arrangement, is both a tribute to Wagner and a deeply spiritual experience in which Bruckner’s mastery and Wagnerian grandeur are palpable.
