Since the 1980s, the Belgian composer has been building an idiosyncratic body of work, featuring repetitive compositions in which melody and rhythm subtly shift. Well-known pieces such as Struggle for Pleasure and Maximizing the Audience have become international classics. Mertens moves effortlessly between solo and ensemble performances and is renowned for his high-pitched voice and expressive sounds. With more than seventy albums to his name, he continues to expand his own musical universe, where time and space seem to dissolve.
