VERA x SPOT present Amenra

The Belgian Amenra is as experimental and atmosphere-driven as it is impossibly heavy. Formed in the early 2000s, the extreme metal band built a versatile sound rooted in doom, sludge, post-metal, and hardcore punk. Their debut Mass I appeared in 2003, and since then, the group has continued to push the boundaries of extreme metal with acclaimed albums like Mass V (2012) and De Doorn (2021).

On their latest album De Doorn, they revealed a different side, shaped by two intense fire rituals in Ghent and Menen. Sculptures, grief, the public, and fire formed the foundation—and that charged atmosphere is audible throughout. With acoustic elements, plenty of space for silence, and Caro Tanghe (Oathbreaker) in a prominent role, Amenra sounds more layered than ever. De Doorn isn’t a Mass, but another kind of monument.
