A beautiful, anti-comic reckoning with Germany's past. Falsche Bewegung is a powerful mix of melancholy and history and forms the second part of Wenders' road movie trilogy.

Rüdiger Vogler, who this time plays the searching writer Wilhelm, travels with a number of colorful characters to places unknown to him, hoping to find inspiration there. What follows is a quest that not only brings enlightenment but also mainly leads to failures

The film was loosely based on Goethe's literary classic about the Bildung of Wilhelm Meister. Robby Müller, who shot several of Wim Wenders' films, received the Bundesfilmpreis in 1975 for the camerawork of Falsche Bewegung.

Falsche Bewegung belongs to Wenders' so-called road movie trilogy, together with Alice in den Städten and Im Lauf der Zeit; in this trilogy the main characters are searching for the meaning of their existence, which invariably remains hidden behind the horizon of their (unarticulated) desires.
