Grondtonen is about a family that becomes lost in the forest. The ground beneath their feet is unstable, yet music rises from the depths. A large forest creature emerges from the earth and follows them between the trees. They do not see it—until their emotions run too high.

I think I might be a little lost. A forest is growing inside our house. The walls have already disappeared between the trees, and our furniture is slowly sinking into the ground. Mum can no longer dance. Branches grow through her bed. I don’t think she will ever get out again. Dad says I shouldn’t worry. He is hunting ballerinas between the bushes.

This morning I found a blue seed, maybe I’ll plant it… The moss is so soft. If I lie down here, everything might turn out fine by itself. The ground holds me tightly and strokes my back. Sometimes I hear something from the depths, like a giant heart beating. The forest breathes in and out. Someone is calling my name, but I cannot answer. Slowly, I sink away.
