Praised worldwide for his intense playing, Krystian Zimerman is keen to reach the highest level imaginable every concert. After one of his previous concerts in the Netherlands, Het Parool called him one of the very best pianists walking the earth. Consequently, Zimerman’s recitals are invariably perfect piano evenings, counted in advance among the highlights of the season.

Someone who works at absolute top level leaves nothing to chance. Neither does Zimerman. One of the few master pianists, he travels from concert hall to concert hall with his own grand piano and piano tuner. His technical knowledge of the instrument and acoustic conditions is insane: I understand the piano from the inside, (…) It is almost a human being to me. I know when it’s sick and what’s wrong with it when I listen to it.

After his recital in May 2019, Zimerman returns to De Oosterpoort on 2 October. He will announce the programme later. Or as the master pianist puts it, I try to announce my programmes as late as possible, so I only decide what to play when I really know what I want to play.
