Phreako Rico’s World

Twenty years after the release of Eigen Wereld — one of the greatest Dutch hip-hop albums of all time — Rico takes the stage with his theatre show ‘Phreako Rico’s World’. He takes the audience back to the glory days of Opgezwolle and the darker side that came with it.

Opgezwolle holds legendary status in Dutch music history, as one of the most influential hip-hop acts the Netherlands has ever produced. As part of the group, Ricardo McDougal — known as Rico — experienced incredible highs, but also battled through deep lows of alcohol and drug addiction.

How did he survive a lonely struggle in the middle of the spotlight? Through beats, poetry, spoken word, striking visuals and new music, Rico offers an intimate look into the life of an artist weighed down by addiction. Even after five rehabs, the fight continues every day.
