Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren is a captivating historic manor with a history spanning over 700 years. The name 'Fraeylemaborg' is believed to be derived from the Old Dutch phrase ‘vrouw Aeylema’. The manor received its current elegant appearance at the end of the eighteenth century.
Step inside and admire the beautifully furnished halls and rooms in the classic Louis XVI style, offering a glimpse into noble life in centuries past. Outside, visitors can explore a stunning estate that blends two historical garden designs.
The large garden is primarily laid out in the romantic English landscape style, featuring winding paths and freely growing trees that create a natural, peaceful atmosphere. At the same time, remnants of the earlier baroque garden remain, such as the richly vegetated central axis.
A special feature of the estate are the so-called follies — small ornamental buildings without any practical use. These charming structures give the garden a fairytale-like feel, making a stroll through the grounds a magical experience.
Visit the Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren and immerse yourself in a unique blend of history, culture, and nature at one of Groningen’s most enchanting heritage sites.
