Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN GroningenComical Christmas classic and youth sentiment for many millennials, this blockbuster about an eight-year-old boy who defends his house against bumbling burglars.
On the eve of a Christmas holiday in Paris, young Kevin McAllister has had enough of his family. He wishes to have the parental home to himself. The next morning his wish actually comes true when his family forgets to take him to the airport in all the chaos.
Unreachable by telephone due to a malfunction, Kevin seems to be heading for a carefree holiday. He just didn't count on two burglars (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern). A cat-and-mouse game follows, where Kevin has to come up with all kinds of tricks to keep them out.
John Hughes, creator of the eighties classics The Breakfast Club (1985) and Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), wrote the screenplay for the family film Home Alone. It was a huge box office hit and launched the acting career of child star Macaulay Culkin, the eldest of a whole litter of young actors.
