Everything Everywhere All at Once
Cinema Forum Groningen
Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN Groningen GroningenAn original and ambitious indie hit from the directing duo Daniels, who turn the problems of first and second generation immigrants into part of their absurd comedy extravaganza. Winner of no fewer than seven Oscars.
Chinese-American Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh) is a burnt-out fifty-something who runs a laundromat with her nerdy husband. One day, she is stunned to discover that she is able to visit parallel universes in which she has made very different life choices. This dizzying indie hit has the makings of a typical Marvel superhero film, but is much more original and ambitious.
Creators Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Swiss Army Man) disregard narrative conventions, astound with bizarre inventions and liberally sprinkle pop culture references, life lessons and social criticism. Dual nationality is celebrated with a great deal of self-mockery, with the multiverse structure serving as a metaphor for the multiple identities and challenges that migrants and their children face on a daily basis.
