Viv & Riley bring a deep-rooted old-soul roots sound with a modern indie-folk twist. Their music blends traditional elements with fresh, iconic melodies and sophisticated vocal harmonies from old-time and classic country. Despite their different backgrounds, Riley from Seattle and Vivian from Lexington, they found each other in 2018 and have since performed hundreds of shows across the US, UK and Canada. Their albums have been praised by NPR Music, Rolling Stone and No Depression, and they have amassed nearly six million Spotify streams.

Their latest album, ‘Imaginary People’, released on 15 September 2023 on Free Dirt Records, explores bittersweet nostalgia. With ten new songs, the duo offers an indie roots gloss on their music, enriching the traditional folk tradition with experimental sounds. Produced by Alex Bingham of Hiss Golden Messenger, the album presents a sunny and layered sound that goes beyond their early country roots. The songs reflect a search for maturity and explore a new direction in their music, from intimate country ballads to sweetly sad and gently sardonic indie songs.

Now based in Durham, North Carolina, Viv & Riley have packed the local music scene and broadened their musical horizons. In addition to their work with The Onlies, an award-winning old-time string band, they continue to find the balance between honouring their musical past and exploring new musical adventures.
