In the lighthearted heist comedy Zwei zu eins, childhood friends decide to steal a fortune in nearly worthless cash from an underground bunker in the summer of 1990 in East Germany.

In the summer of 1990, when East German citizens have just six days to exchange their Ostmarks for West German marks, childhood friends and lovers Maren, Robert, and Volker decide to steal a fortune in nearly worthless currency from an underground bunker. Together with family, friends, and neighbors, they devise a creative plan to convert the money into valuables as quickly as possible and thus outsmart the capitalists. 

Director Natja Brunckhorst presents Zwei zu eins, a lighthearted GDR comedy based on a true story. Featuring a star-studded German cast including Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Max Riemelt (Sense8), and Ronald Zehrfeld (Phoenix), it tells a story of love and loyalty, of money and justice. The film depicts a nostalgic longing for the old GDR, mixed with the cheerfully chaotic chaos of a world in transition.
